WebSounds like a good plan, but I always build my floodgate at the end of a tunnel, link it up first, and then finish the tunnel. That way after the dwarf busts into the water / magma and comes running back, i can have another dwarf slam closed the floodgate to stop the flow until my miner successfully escapes.
